WANTED: YOUR INPUT ( help design my the next game! )

Posted by TheMillz - June 30th, 2009

New game in the works: BLOOD BATH BAY

You play as a diver who must comb the bottom of a cave in deep lake looking for snails who produce the cure to a recent zombie outbreak topside. In the game, you fight zombies and unravel the mystery of the inhabitants of the submerged world.

As of now, you can shoot enemies with a speargun, stab them with a knife, and pickup huge drills ( pick below ) to devastate your enemies. Your dive suit is to heavy to swim very high, but there are flipper power-ups that give you free-swimming abilities for a short period of time.

There are hidden deathtraps and death pits to leap over, and you can leave the water to explore "air-pockets" within the cave.

Anything you guys would like to see in the game, let us know and we'll consider it. We're looking for serious opinions, but if you wanna be silly about your responses, w/e, have fun with that...

you mean a collaberative effort?

No, I'm already working with a coder ( I'm the art guy ) I just wanted to see if any Newgrounders had any say on what features they would wanna see in the game, like fish to stab or something...

I had one idea. A good object in that setting to boost you upward could be a hydrothermal vent. Search it up on Google. It's basically like an underwater geyser. As I was saying, it could serve a boosting up purpose, sort of like the springs in Sonic the Hedgehog.

Cheats and Checkpoint passwords.

How about a russian submarine? You could have it as something in the background, a level, a boss, something random to destroy. Underwater zombie killing sounds like a cool and original idea keep up the good games. Where can't you kill zombies these days? lol

i like to see you have a mode that lets you BE the zombie and kill the people (like before the outbreak) that would add some fun interactive storyline to your game and if you die but you killed at least (insert number of people you killed) you still pass (cuz the infection would have already caused the outbreak) but for the mode where you try to find the cure you cant die or else you'd get a "game over" like classics (you can die in normal mode and any other mode you add)

Is the drill a sort of substitute for a chainsaw or something?
When kiling zombies a chainsaw is almost a must if you cant get a shotgun ;)

Yea, shotys don't do so good under the H2O :P

Definitely make sure the bosses are INCREDIBLY large. Or at least some of them are incredibly large.
Have at least one incredibly large boss. That's like, I dunno, some sea creature infected by the zombie virus... okay
please don't go into it too much, I swear the end result of a super badass whale zombie would be worth the plot hole.

Yea man, it makes sense for the aquatic life to be infected too. Thanks for the ideas :D

You know those big ass floater mines, that are attached to chains, in one of your free swim parts you should make a maze of those bastards.

Dude, thank you, we are SO using that element ;)

Unfortunately, nothing is in any particular order in this reply. but i really put myself into this one, so if you actually read it, thanks.

are there bosses? one could be an obese zombie that doesn't get injured when you attack the body. it only gets hurt when you hit the head. but remember that you need some way to get over the boss if it reaches the side of the screen where you are.

i think it would appeal to everyone who has read The Zombie Survival Guide or World War Z (mostly the recent readers) if you made it accurate to that. otherwise theyll be wondering why you didn't follow the official guide to a fictional zombie apocalypse

make the zombies still survive until you destroy the brain. makes it much more interesting. With ragdoll...shit, i forgot the word... anyways, you know what i mean.

radio contact with someone above sea level? like someone who could brief you on the mission. the one who sent you down there. you should make it a girl. the person that does that in a game is usually a girl (other than solid snake). her role in the game is defined more clearly in the next paragraph.

make it adventure themed. not just an arcade game for highscore. maybe make the snails the main mission, but a bunch of obstacles other than traditional pitfalls and enemies. no one wants to play a mash of left 4 dead and super mario bros.
say you are sent down by the girl and you traverse your way a little. while you are going, she talks to you and briefs you on the mission. make their acquaintance not completely formal. let it be about the mission, but then again let her show some worry or make some commentary.
then let the game progress.
at some point in the game, her picture pops again and she says that says that she is picking up some vibrations ahead. "be careful, could be dangerous, etc. etc." some kind of boss i guess. something that makes vibrations or something. maybe a zombie that was heavy and stomped. or threw stuff.
cue floating lightbulb. a boss zombie bashing on the side of a sunken ship. but not the wooden pirate ships, dude. like an aircraft carrier or something. then it notices you and you have to fight it.

but don't be afraid to add some natural enemies. it's not likely that all animal life is extinct. sharks (no zombie sharks. please, dear god no zombie sharks or zombie piranhas or zombie animal life.) would be good.

another thing that could be sort of an omen to make the suspense build was to find some fresh bodies in an "airpocket." here's what i was thinking. feel free to make alterations.
you enter an airpocket and start to walk around. then you find some zombies huddled around each other like they were eating something. then they see you and attack you, blah blah you attack, they die. then as you kill off the last one, the mangled body they were feasting on raises his arm in an attempt to reach towards you as if you could help him live despite his being torn to pieces by zombies. no cinematic. just regular gameplay screen. the body on the floor leaned against a rock facing you. something like this
__ o
rock--> _/ \o __ <-- make the head lower /| |\
_________/ \\ \______________________________/ \______
then let his arm drop as if he just died abruptly. you contact the girl and conflict between the protagonists ensue. how youre mad that you werent told that others had been sent. ultimately, the fight ends in a stalemate with the girl saying that there was no other way and you accepting it because there has been too much time wasted already. then i guess a boss in the end of the airpocket.

another good boss idea is a huge muscular zombie. i mean way out of proportion. then its at the end of an airpocket and lumbers towards you. you have to run away from it while attacking it by shooting stalagmites (or tites i forget) and making them fall on him or some sort of unconventional way.

but MOST IMPORTANTLY, avoid making the game too confusing. people like a game that you can get right away. don't make the airpockets intertwine like a maze unless you're going to have a minimap. i really hope the airpockets won't be too numerous that it will make us go back and forth and not know whether we already went into that one or not.

say we get to the end of an airpocket. we don't want to walk all the way out, right? make a constant feature in the end wall of an airpocket a crack that leaks water. you could shoot it or hit it and water would rush in and swoosh you back to the entrance.

how bout every few kilometers we find an anchor instead of an airpocket entrance. it would signify a bonus area where we can look for supplies (ammo for your speargun, medkits, survivors, etc. we can climb to the top and onto a cruise, yacht, fishingboat, etc. and fight off the invading zombies that found their way on then look for supplies and survivors. survivors could thank you for saving them then give you extra bonus supplies such as more armor, something to make you quicker, something that would make you jump higher, etc. but only if you saved them. like in house of dead, sometimes your teammate is taken and about to be bitten by the zombies. you have to kill the zombies without killing the teammate.

if any of this actually helps and you want to reply, PM me. replying wouldn't do anything since ng doesn't notify you or links you to it.

Too many times have I given a zombie a triple tap in games, and it dies. Make these zombies invincible until I render its brain useless with a harpoon. I have an idea for a level, maybe. Get swallowed by a whale, and find a shitload of cure snails in the belly. In a cutscene while in the whale, show signs of decay as zombification ends. Then, get your ass blown from the blow-hole, and fight a zombie whale. I don't know. Make it realistic. Read The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks to get ideas. Get it from the library, though.

I'm looking forward to this!

i know this has already been said but i think that deep sea fish infected with the zombie virus would be really coolalso i was thinking that maybe the snails could have been used by an ancient civilization, maybe they could have been used once before when a zombie outbreak happened before in history at some and maybe the under water zombies are people of that civilization

how about you have a secret weapon when a dude comes near you you can take a piss and kill him

you should have to save hot naked girls from bosses in the air pockets
